December 3 was the annual Benicia Holiday Open House and Christmas Tree Lighting on 1st Street. It was a beautiful, brisk night. Thousands of people turned out. The street was closed to traffic and merchants were open late, many offering treats to the passers by. The lighting took place at the end of the street at 6:00.
